The Federal Government has said that the planned strike by Organized Labor, scheduled to begin on Monday, may exacerbate the economic challenges faced by citizens.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejoecha stated that any new minimum wage must balance the needs of workers with the potential impact on employment, particularly in the private sector, which employs the majority of the workforce.

Onyejoecha urged Labor Unions to reconsider the strike, adding that negotiations are still ongoing and that the government’s proposals aim to address the country’s economic realities.

The proposals include a wage increase to N60,000 for federal workers, introduction of CNG-fueled buses, and enhanced financial access for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as investments in key sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, education, and healthcare.

She stressed that the government is committed to finding a solution that works for all parties involved.
