Renowned legal expert, Femi Falana (SAN) has highlighted that the National Minimum Wage Act of 2019, which established a minimum wage of N30,000, has officially expired.

Falana stressed that the National Assembly must now enact a new National Minimum Wage Act, as stipulated in Section 3(4) of the Act, which mandates a review every five years.

Notably, he explained that the Act came into effect on April 18, 2019, and consequently expired on April 18, 2024.

While the Federal Government has proposed a new minimum wage of N48,000, Labor Unions have rejected this offer, leading to an ongoing strike.
