The federal government has rescued seven persons trapped at a mining site that collapsed in Galadima Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, the rescue effort was a collaborative effort between the government, the mining company, African Minerals and Logistics Ltd, and emergency responders.

Alake revealed that his office swiftly mobilized the Federal Mines Officer (FMO) and officials from the Mines Inspectorate to the site upon learning of the incident.

Working together with the mining company, they successfully rescued seven victims, some of whom sustained injuries.

He added that the rescue operation, which is ongoing, utilizes excavators to carefully extract those still trapped in the rubble.

The Minister revealed the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the incident and ensuring no further loss of life.

According to him, the collapse was likely caused by heavy rainfall, which softened the soil.
