Barcelona president Joan Laporta has explained why he decided to fire Xavi Hernandez as manager.
Until the last week of April, the club was still trying to convince Xavi to stay. However, the former Spain midfielder made comments about Barcelona’s weak financial situation and its impact on their ability to compete with Real Madrid.
These remarks didn’t sit well with Laporta, leading to Xavi’s departure within a month. Hansi Flick was brought in as his replacement.

Speaking on ‘The President’s Podcast’ on Barça One, Joan Laporta said: “Xavi told me he trusted this team, but then some of his statements seemed to change that stance. It made me reconsider, and along with the board, I felt a change was necessary.”
