Nigeria’s hopes for the 2026 World Cup took another hit after a surprising 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic on Monday, leaving the Super Eagles with just three points from four matches in Group C of the African qualifiers.

Their situation worsened on Tuesday when South Africa beat Zimbabwe 3-1 and Rwanda secured a 1-0 victory over Lesotho.

As a result, Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin now lead the group with seven points each. Lesotho follows with five points, while Nigeria is in fifth place with three points.
