A man has been sentenced to a life imprisonment after raping an underage girl in Ekiti.

A High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State gave the sentence to one Ojo Ayegbusi on the ground that he raped a 15-year-old girl in November 11, 2020 at Ikole Ekiti.

The charge read;

“The innocent survivor (victim) of the rape was coming from school when she was accosted by the defendant who lured her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.

“She could not tell anybody of her nasty experience, but her father found out when the girl was rushed to hospital after she collapsed at home and blood was gushing out of her private parts.”

The accused was subsequently arrested, and arraigned in court. Reacting to the incident, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ekiti State, Julius Ajibare said “The offence of rape is contrary to Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”. He also called three witnesses and tendered three evidence in support of his case

The judge, Justice John Adeyeye said “the prosecution proved the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.”, and sentenced Oko to life imprisonment.
