The Delta State governor, Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has proposed to upgrade three existing institutions to universities in order to increase space for indigenes of the state seeking admission and job opportunities.
The institutions to be upgraded includes, Collage of Education, Agbor, which will become University of Education, Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, to become University of Science and Technology while Delta State University, Anwai campus, will become University of Science and Agriculture.
Prof. Patrick Mobuoghare,the State Commissioner for High Education, disclosed this on Wednesday in Asaba, saying that the additional institutions would address the struggle for admission, job opportunities among others.

He said, “These three additional universities in the state will solve the problem of admission. If the space is there, students will not struggle for admission.
“For the 2019/2020 admission, 25,896 candidates chose the Delta State University, Abraka as first choice. Out of this number, 22,358 qualified, applied for and wrote the UTME examination.
“Only 4,854 could find space, leaving the remaining 21,042 candidates stranded and almost hopeless. These are the ones, who in an attempt to avoid staying idle at home, find themselves in various expensive sub-degree programmes in universities.”
