Many have been left wailing after two young boys drown in a river in Benue State.

According to reports, it was gathered that the duo, identified as Kumater Kachil, 12-year-old, and Aondosoo Ansambe, 13-year-old were said to have drowned in Mkar Hills Dam and Kontien stream in Gboko, wjixj is located im the headquarters of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

Kumater was said to have gone to fetch firewood at Mkar hill where he drowned and died on Saturday, 22nd June 2024. It was gathered that his mother, Mrs Veronica, with the aid of farmers were able to recover his body.

Aondosoo on the other hand, drowned in the Kontien stream around Akaajime-Mkar-Gboko road when he went swimming with his friends on Sunday morning, 23rd June.

An eyewitness confirmed the incident to have happened when his parents had attended church for morning mass

Some stakeholders of the community, as well as elders Tyover Akaajime, Hon. Smith Akom Takema and the Youth leader of the residence, Butty Shima Ukor, have called for the help of the government to investigate tge cause od the frequent drownings, while also advising and cautioning children against swimming and other unnecessary forms of social outings.
