Luka Modric

Croatia captain Luka Modric expressed his feelings about the harsh realities of football during Euro 2024.

Speaking to reporters after Croatia’s 1-1 draw against Italy on Monday, the Real Madrid midfielder reflected on the match where he initially gave Croatia the lead with a penalty, only for Italy to score a late equalizer through Mattia Zaccagni in stoppage time.

“Football can be incredibly cruel,” Modric remarked. “I would love to play football forever, but I know that’s not possible. One day, I will have to announce my retirement from playing, though I don’t know when that will be.”
