Troops from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna State have apprehended 47 suspected rail track vandals and recovered stolen tracks along the Kakau Daji-Anguwan route.

The suspects, who were intercepted during a routine patrol on June 26, 2024, had loaded two trucks with vandalized rail tracks and were attempting to offload them in a nearby bush.

According to Lt. Col. IY Rena, acting Commander of 1 Division Provost Group, the suspects claimed they were employed by one Alhaji Babawo, who is currently on the run, to steal the rail tracks.

The army has profiled the suspects to determine the extent of their involvement in such crimes and is working to apprehend the gang leader.

The recovered tracks were found concealed in a nearby bush, awaiting transportation by other criminal syndicates. The suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) authorities at Kaduna Station for further investigation and prosecution.
