The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has once again sounded the alarm on the dangers of fake news and hate speech, identifying them as significant threats to peace and progress in Nigeria.

According to the agency, many individuals consume and disseminate news without verification, leading to the spread of misinformation that can spark rancor and strife in communities.

“NOA is a major bridge between the Federal government and Nigerian citizens,” said Mrs. Regina Iroha, State Director of NOA in Abia State.

“We urge every community to seek and maintain peace and avoid every form of misinformation that retards development.”

Iroha emphasized the importance of fact-checking and verifying information before accepting or sharing it.

“We must constantly verify every information or fact-check the content of any news story that could be misleading to avoid strife and rancor in the society,” she stressed.

The traditional ruler of Ovukwu Abam autonomous community, His Royal Highness Eze Sunday Kalu Okpi, commended NOA’s efforts in bringing the government closer to the people, especially in rural areas.

He lamented the negative effects of fake news and hate speech and promised to further sensitize his subjects about the consequences.

NOA has been engaging with stakeholders, spreading the message of building a people of peace and urging communities to prioritize verification and fact-checking to prevent the spread of misinformation.
