A devastating incident occurred in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Thursday, July 11, 2024, as a tricyclist committed suicide over the seizure of his tricycle by government agents.
According to eyewitnesses, the tricyclist was intercepted by officials for an unspecified offence, leading to the seizure of his tricycle. Despite efforts to retrieve his vehicle, the tricyclist was unsuccessful, prompting him to take his own life in protest.

An eyewitness, Prince Excel of Aiyekooto Reporters, described the scene as “unfortunate” and described how the man “hanged himself on the major road at the Jubilee Estate, in front of the LASTMA gate on the Sagamu Road.”
In a video posted on WhatsApp, Excel said, “This is early Thursday morning, July 11, 2024, an unfortunate situation just happened right now. A man just committed suicide on the major road at the Jubilee Estate, in front of the LASTMA gate on the Sagamu Road. This is quite unfortunate.”
The video showed the man’s lifeless body hanging from a tree with a rope tied around his neck.

A text captioning Excel’s video alleged that the tricyclist committed the act due to the seizure of his tricycle, stating, “A tricyclist, Keke Marwa rider, just committed suicide. He hanged himself in front of LASTMA’s office at Odogunyan in Ikorodu. Reportedly, his Keke was taken from him. He begged them (for) so long but they refused. So, the man decided to hang himself in front of their (office). So sad.”
However, the spokesperson for LASTMA, Taofiq Adebayo, denied the involvement of the agency and its officers in the incident, stating, “We are not involved in the seizure of the tricycle, and our officers did not intercept the tricyclist.”
