IYC Calls for Peaceful Council Elections in Delta

As the local government elections hold today in Delta State, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone, has issued a fervent appeal for peace and unity among all participants.

This was contained in a statement on Saturday morning by Comrades Nicholas Igarama – Chairman, Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo Esq. – Secretary, and  Tare Magbei – Information Officer, emphasizing the importance of brotherhood and peaceful conduct during the electoral process.

The body governing Ijaw youths in Delta, Edo and Ondo States, highlighted the shared bonds among the people of Delta State, urging all to remember that they are brothers first before any political affiliations.

The IYC called on all political actors and their supporters to uphold peace and solidarity, ensuring that political lines do not create divisions within the community.

“We must remember that we are all brothers before politics,” the statement said.

“Our shared heritage and community ties should guide our actions, especially during times of political activities. It is crucial that we do not allow political lines to divide us or foster animosity among us.”

The body stressed the importance of maintaining peace to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process that reflects the true will of the people.

“Participants in the upcoming elections must conduct themselves with dignity and respect for one another.

“Peaceful elections are not just a necessity for democratic integrity but also for the continued development and unity of our communities. Hence, we call on political parties and faithfuls to shun every form of violence during the elections.

“The IYC is hopeful and confident that Deltans will rise to the occasion and set a commendable example of peaceful democratic participation.

“The future of Delta State lies in our hands. Let us choose peace, unity, and brotherhood over division and conflict. Together, we can build a better and more inclusive society for all,” the statement added.
