Yakubu disclosed this during an interactive session with the joint Senate and House of Representatives’ Electoral Matters, stating, “We removed 2.4 million names of registered voters involved in double registration.”

Yakubu also addressed the malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the elections, attributing it to the first-time use of the technology on a large scale.

He noted, “The challenges faced in uploading the results during the 2023 general elections was because it was the first time the technology was used for the election of such magnitude in the country.”

Furthermore, Yakubu emphasized the need for the passage of the Electoral Offence Commission bill by the 10th Assembly, stating, “The Commission does not have the capacity to investigate and prosecute electoral offenders..Such responsibility should be given to agencies with the requisite capacity.”

He also called for a timeline to be set for the conclusion of all election offence cases, warning that litigation may last between 5 to 10 years without it.
