MTN, Airtel Lines Blockage Not Linked to Protests, Says Buhari’s Ex-Aide

Contrary to widespread speculation, the recent blockage of some MTN and Airtel lines is not connected to the upcoming protests, according to Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ahmad revealed that a senior government official informed him that the issue was due to discrepancies in National Identity Number (NIN) details submitted during SIM registration. “The lines were actually blocked because the NIN details did not match the information submitted during SIM registration,” Ahmad explained.

He added that the affected users had received SMS notifications from MTN and Airtel, advising them to resubmit their NIN with the correct details. “He also told me that MTN and Airtel have sent out SMS notifications to the affected users, advising them to visit their offices or
