Boat Owners and Boat Drivers Association in Delta State, have voiced their support for prominent Ijaw leaders, including High Chief Government Ekpemukolo, popularly known as Tompolo, and Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The statement, signed by Stephen M. Dauzuwo, Chairman of NPA Boat Owners, and Comrade Isaac Saifuyai Ozobo, Chairman of the NPA Boat Drivers Association, expressed solidarity with these leaders in their concerns regarding the proposed #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

The press statement highlighted the associations’ alignment with the cautionary stance of Tompolo and Otuaro, emphasizing the potential risks and negative impacts that such protests could have on the fragile peace and economic stability in the region.

The associations underscored the importance of addressing issues of governance through dialogue and constructive engagement, rather than through disruptive public demonstrations.

“As key stakeholders in the maritime and transport sectors, we are deeply concerned about the implications of such actions on the peace and stability of the Ijaw nation and the broader Niger Delta region,” the statement read.

The statement continued, “While we acknowledge the grievances and frustrations of many Nigerians over the state of governance, we believe that the path to meaningful change lies in peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement with the relevant authorities.

The proposed protest, though well-intentioned, carries the risk of violence and disorder, which could further harm our communities and disrupt the economic activities upon which many depend.”

The leaders called on the organizers of the protest to reconsider their approach and to engage with Ijaw leaders and other stakeholders to explore alternative avenues for expressing their concerns.

They reiterated the commitment of the Boat Owners and Boat Drivers Association to supporting efforts aimed at promoting good governance, peace, and development in the region.

This joint statement reflects the cautious stance of influential figures within the Ijaw community, who advocate for peaceful and non-disruptive means of addressing the nation’s challenges.

The backing of Tompolo and Otuaro by these associations further emphasizes the importance of unity and dialogue in navigating the complex socio-political landscape of Nigeria.
