Target Segibo, the chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa, has cautioned individuals seeking chieftaincy titles against engaging in actions that could spark conflict.
In an interview on Monday, Segibo stated that chieftaincy disputes should not be exploited to create divisions within the community.
His comments came in response to the ongoing chieftaincy controversy in Amassoma, a community within the local government area.

Segibo stressed that the council would not permit those vying for the traditional stool of Amananaowei of Amassoma to destabilize the community.

He revealed that the actions of the factions involved in the chieftaincy dispute were already causing divisions within the community.
Segibo urged the factions to cancel any previously scheduled meetings at the community town hall to prevent clashes.
He added that the council is working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and lasting peace of the community.
