Niger Delta Youths Urged to Seize NDDC’s Special Training Opportunity

NDDC To Establish Corporate Governance Structure

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is encouraging young people in the Niger Delta region to take advantage of its special training program to develop entrepreneurship skills.

Chiedu Ebie, the governing board chairman, made the call during the launch of the NDDC youth internship scheme in Port Harcourt on Monday.

As part of the initiative, selected participants will receive a monthly stipend of N50,000 to acquire skills in various fields such as automobile, craftsmanship, medicine, maritime, agriculture, and technology, among others.

The program aims to equip young people with the skills to become entrepreneurs and employable.

However, Ebie warned that measures are in place to detect any attempts to falsify age or eligibility. Provisions have also been made to accommodate physically challenged persons.

Each participant will have the opportunity to select an internship location, and the NDDC will connect them with businesses seeking interns.

A monitoring and evaluation framework will be established to ensure transparency and measure the program’s success.

The NDDC managing director, Samuel Ogbuku, commended the young people for not participating in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest, addind that the empowerment program was a carefully planned initiative, not an afterthought.

Ogbuku highlighted that the program is part of the commission’s N1.9 trillion annual budget and demonstrated the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to developing the Niger Delta region.
