A youth, Habibu Aminu, has been killed by a soldier in Lere town, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, according to the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.

The incident occurred during a confrontation between joint military forces from Operation Safe Haven and local youth in the area.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, said the conflict stemmed from a disagreement between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Lere Village and the Operation Safe Haven forces stationed in Tafawa Balewa.

Wakil said the Commissioner of Police had dispatched a team of detectives to investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police has dispatched a Mobile Police Force unit for reinforcement and established a team of detectives for a thorough investigation. We are committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
