Comedian Kenny Blaq has clarified that he did not pioneer music comedy in Nigeria, despite popular belief. He acknowledged the contributions of the late Gbenga Adeboye, CD John, and others who laid the groundwork for the genre.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Blaq explained, “Many people think I started music comedy in Nigeria, but that’s not the case. Pioneers like Gbenga Adeboye, Fung Otong, MC Miracle, Maleke, and CD John were already doing music comedy. What set me apart was my unique approach.”
He added, “I introduced a new vibe, similar to what Wizkid and Davido bring to their music, incorporating various genres and styles into my comedy. While earlier music comedians focused on specific styles, like Igbo or Yoruba music, I blended genres and storytelling into my performances.”
