Obasanjo Suggests Execution of Some Leaders in Nigeria, Africa

Obasanjo Suggests Execution of Some Leaders in Nigeria, Africa | Daily Report Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has suggested that many leaders in Nigeria and Africa deserve to be incarcerated or even face the death penalty due to their corrupt and harmful actions.

Obasanjo made the suggestion while hosting six federal lawmakers at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday.

He believed that the main problem facing Nigeria and Africa is not the system, but rather the character and mentality of the leaders themselves.

According to him, even if the system is reformed, nothing will change if the leaders’ mindset remains the same.

The former president also discussed the need to rethink liberal democracy in Africa, adding that it has led to a lack of genuine opposition and inclusivity.

He stressed that in many African languages, the term for opposition translates to “enemies,” which can lead to a counterproductive approach to governance.

Obasanjo’s comments come as lawmakers who met with him advocated for constitutional reforms, including a six-year term and regional rotation of the presidency.

The lawmakers were Ugochinyere Ikenga from Imo, Abdulmalik Danga from Kogi, Kama Nkemkanma from Ebonyi, Usman Midala from Borno, Matthew Nwogu from Imo, and Peter Aniekwe from Anambra.
