The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (2024 WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2024.

The 2024 WASSCE results were disclosed on Monday, August 12, as verified in a communication on the examination body’s official X account.

The announcement stated, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform Candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024.”

The 2024 WASSCE was conducted over seven weeks and six days, from April 30 to June 24.

A total of 1,814,736 candidates enrolled for the examination from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria.

Of this figure, 1,805,216 candidates participated in the examination.

Among those who took the exam in Nigeria, 1,685,889 candidates (93.39 percent) have had all their papers processed and results released, while 119,327 candidates (6.61 percent) still have some subjects undergoing processing.

Amos Josiah Dangut, head of WAEC Nigeria, stated that the results of 215,267 candidates (11.92 percent of the total) are being withheld due to various reported cases of examination malpractice.

This, the council noted, signifies a 4.37 percent reduction from the 16.29 percent recorded in the 2023 WASSCE for school candidates.

A performance review reveals that 1,332,089 candidates (73.79 percent) achieved credit and above in a minimum of five subjects (with or without English and/or Mathematics).

A total of 1,301,941 candidates (72.12 percent) secured credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

A year-on-year comparison for this category indicates that the 2024 WASSCE experienced a 7.69 percent decline from the 79.81 percent pass rate recorded in 2023.
