The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State have traded words over the local government election, with the APC accusing the PDP and State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) of planning to rig the poll.
The APC, in a press conference on Saturday, alleged that BASIEC had failed to provide adequate election materials and raised concerns about the credibility of the exercise.
The party’s Legal Adviser, Rabiu Garba, said, “We have observed that BASIEC has failed to provide adequate sensitive and non-sensitive election materials. We have reason to believe that BASIEC intends to announce election results while voting is in progress, which is unacceptable.”

The PDP, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless and unfounded. A chieftain of the party, Abdullahi Mato, said, “Everybody knows that Bauchi is a PDP-controlled state. There is no local government in Bauchi State you will visit that you will not come across the projects of the PDP.”
Another PDP chieftain, Abubakar Musa, added, “Had it been the PDP wants to rig the election, why would the governor direct all party stakeholders to campaign and seek voters’ support?”
