The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the immediate rescue of 20 medical students who were kidnapped in Otukpo, Benue State.
Recall that the students were abducted while on their way to attend the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students in Enugu.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Olumiyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun condemned the kidnapping of the students, describing it as “truly appalling, callous, and unacceptable.”
He reassured his commitment to ensuring the safe return of the students, adding that police have deployed substantial human and technical resources to aid in their rescue.

The rescue effort includes the mobilization of additional tactical units from the FID-STS and FID-IRT, the deployment of advanced helicopters and drones, and the use of specialized tactical vehicles.
According to him, the NPF is working tirelessly to secure the safe return of the victims and is determined to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the perpetrators.
The IGP has appealed to the public to provide any relevant information or intelligence that may aid in the ongoing investigation and rescue operation.
