Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini admitted that the situation with Ademola Lookman was unexpected. Lookman asked to be left out of the squad for Atalanta’s Serie A opener against Lecce following interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Earlier, Teun Koopmeiners had also withdrawn from the squad in an effort to secure a transfer to Juventus. Despite these off-field issues, Atalanta managed a 4-0 victory over Lecce.
Gasperini addressed the situations involving Ademola Lookman and Koopmeiners after the match. “Honestly, no one anticipated this scenario. I’m taking it one day at a time. We faced various challenges, including Scamacca’s injury,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

He added, “I’m unsure about what will happen in the final days of the transfer window. My focus is on putting together the best squad possible and assessing with the club what additions could be beneficial. We won’t have a finalized squad until August 31.”
