Residents of Sabon Birni have taken to the streets in outrage and grief following the murder of Alhaji Isa Bawa, the Emir of Gobir in Gawata town, Sokoto State.

Bawa was abducted three weeks ago along with his son while traveling to his native town of Sabon Birni, near the Niger border, after attending a meeting in Sokoto.

A video released during his captivity showed Bawa pleading with the Nigerian government to secure his release.

Tragically, he died in captivity, sparking widespread anger and frustration among the community.

Youths in Sabon Birni have revealed their grievances by burning tires and clashing with police officers who attempted to quell the riot.

Reports indicated that the situation remains tense, with residents demanding justice for the slain Emir and improved security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
