A trader, identified as Amiru, was shot in the chest while running for his life and later died at Maitama District hospital. Three police vehicles were also set ablaze.
The FCT police command has confirmed the incident, stating that the Shiites attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives.
Several arrests have been made, and the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has condemned the attack, promising to bring those involved to book.
