No fewer than 150 people have been kidnapped in a fresh attack by bandits in Gobir, Sokoto State, amidst mourning the death of their Emir, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, who was murdered by bandits.

According to Prof Bello Bada, a University Don, the bandits have been emboldened by lapses from many quarters, including the failure to address their nefarious activities.

He cited previous attacks on prominent monarchs, including the Emir of Potiskum and the Emir of Kauran Namoda.

Bada emphasized that the murder of the Emir of Gobir was a humiliation to all Nigerians and called for a rethink on the activities of the bandits.

He also alleged that the leaders of the bandits are well known, as are their places of origin and those who supply them with logistics.

Security analyst Dr Yahuza Getso called for the punishment of security operatives who failed to prevent the Emir’s murder and warned of palpable tension in the Gobir community.

He also alleged that political leaders are not giving security operatives the support they need to address the menace.
