Afrobeats singer and producer Maleek Berry recently shared a story about his early days working with Davido. Appearing on the ’90s Baby’ podcast, Berry recalled how Davido, despite coming from a wealthy family, acted like he was struggling while they were both up-and-coming artists.
Berry mentioned that during their studio sessions, Davido only had around four thousand views on YouTube. He used to take Davido to record in a studio in Bermondsey, London. They were introduced through one of Davido’s cousins on social media and connected over their shared love of music.
Maleek Berry was surprised when he first visited Davido’s father’s mansion, realizing the extent of their wealth. He had previously thought Davido was just blending in with the rest of them, not showing off his background.

Berry also revealed that Davido later introduced him to Wizkid, further expanding his connections in the music industry.
