American singer Mariah Carey has confirmed the deaths of her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, who both passed away on the same day last weekend. Carey shared the news in a statement on Monday, though she did not disclose the causes of death or the exact day.
“My heart is broken that I lost my mother this past weekend. Tragically, my sister also passed away on the same day. I’m grateful I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey said.
Patricia Carey, a well-known opera singer, had previously collaborated with her daughter and was a significant influence on Mariah’s music career.

Mariah Carey had an estranged relationship with her sister Alison and had mentioned in her memoir that she found it “emotionally and physically safer” to cut off contact with Alison and their brother Morgan.
