Two main reasons have emerged for why Victor Osimhen did not join Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Despite being a long-term target for Chelsea, the Nigerian striker remains with Napoli after the European transfer window closed.

Victor Osimhen, who has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli and played a key role in their Serie A title win two years ago, was seen as a crucial addition to Chelsea’s attack.

The club was looking to bolster their forward options following Nicolas Jackson’s arrival for £32 million.

One of the reasons the deal didn’t go through was due to wage negotiations. Osimhen was unwilling to lower his salary demands to match what Chelsea was offering.

Reports suggest that Chelsea proposed a contract worth €155,000 per week, which is less than what Osimhen currently earns at Napoli.

The Nigerian striker refused to accept the pay cut, leaving Chelsea’s delegation disappointed.

According to Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the negotiations ended with relationships between the parties “completely broken.”

Another factor was Chelsea’s shift in focus towards signing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

Sensing an opportunity to acquire the English winger late in the window, Chelsea prioritized this move over finalizing a deal for Osimhen and quickly reached an agreement with Manchester United.

While the European transfer window is now closed, there is still a chance for Victor Osimhen to make a move, as the non-European transfer window remains open for a few more days.

Saudi club Al-Ahli has reportedly agreed on a deal with Napoli, but Osimhen has so far shown reluctance to move there.

Additionally, French outlet L’Equipe reports that Osimhen has informed Napoli he is no longer willing to play for the Italian side.
