The government of President Bola Tinubu is pursuing a death penalty for ten individuals who participated in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, according to court documents.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the protesters have been accused of treason, a capital offence punishable by death.

The accused include Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu Opaluwa, Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent Buhari, Lawal Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis Abdulsalam, and Zubairu.

Since the protests against widespread hardship and insecurity ended last month, security agencies have been cracking down on participants, arresting hundreds, including minors.

Many detainees are being held without charge, sparking criticism from human rights organisations and concerns about the government’s repressive tactics.

The development raised alarm among human rights groups, with many expressing outrage at the government’s response to the protests.
