Hundreds of Nigerians gathered in the capital city of Abuja on Monday to voice their frustration over the ongoing fuel scarcity, which has left the country grappling with endless queues, inflated prices, and uncertainty.

The protest, led by the Coalition of Concerned Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria, aimed to pressure the federal government to take immediate action to address the crisis.

Comrade Aminu Abbas, the convener of the coalition, singled out the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mr Mele Kyari for criticism and held him responsible for the fuel scarcity.

“We are tired of hearing stories about our refineries” and “We want accountability in the affairs of NNPCL.”

This marks the fifth fuel scarcity crisis since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023, prompting the coalition to question Kyari’s efforts to alleviate the crisis and demand solutions and accountability.

According to the protesters, the government must live up to its promises, particularly President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which pledged a new beginning for Nigeria.

They urged the government to ensure prosperity and security for all Nigerians by addressing the fuel scarcity and holding those responsible accountable.
