Residents have been left in a state of panic following a violent invasion of a community in Niger State.
According to reports, a gang of armed hoodlums suspected to be artisanal miners invaded Muhammad Inuwa Wushishi Housing Estate in Minna, Niger State on Monday, September 2, 2024.

The armed men reportedly damaged approximately 50 houses, vehicles and other belongings, and also threatened them to vacate their homes, threatening to return.
Speaking ok the incident, John, a resident said that about 100 hoodlums had earlier invaded, but we’re chased out of the community by police officers.
They however came back armed with cutlasses and other weapons, as they sought revenge against the community for their efforts to halt nearby mining operations.
Another resident, Mrs Babalola Balkisu who is also a victim of this invasion noted that she received a call of the break in, adding that the hoodlums weren’t able to gain entrance into her home because her son locked the doors.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police command, SP Wasiu Abiodun said the police received a distress call at approximately 2:00pm.
“Patrol teams, led by the DPO of Maitumbi, were dispatched to the scene and successfully dispersed the attackers,” the PPRO said.
He added that one person, whose identity remains unknown, was k!lled by the hoodlums and the corpse was transported to the general hospital morgue.
