The Minister for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has called on residents of Sokoto State to report any jobless person living a flamboyant lifestyle to security agents.

Matawalle made this statement while visiting Sokoto State with the Chief of Defence, General Christopher Musa, on the directive of President Bola Tinubu to end banditry in the Northern part of the country.

According to Matawalle, such individuals may be informants to suspected bandits disturbing the peace of the state. He encouraged residents to support security agencies by providing adequate information to tackle the rising case of insecurity.

“We have also employed 200 persons from each of the 23 local governments into the Sokoto Community Guard Corps, to complement the job of the security team in the state,” Matawalle said.

This development comes as part of the government’s efforts to address the growing issue of insecurity in the country. By encouraging residents to report suspicious individuals, the government hopes to gather more information and take action against those perpetuating violence and criminal activity.

The Defence Minister’s statement has generated mixed reactions from the public, with some praising the initiative and others expressing concerns about privacy and potential abuse of power.
