The House of Representatives Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity has vowed to investigate the delay in implementing the new N70,000 minimum wage by state governments.

Chairman Adegboyega Adefarati expressed the committee’s readiness to address the issue, appealing to governors to comply with the new law.

“We’ll look into it immediately we resume from recess. We can just appeal to the governors to comply with the Act,” Adefarati said.

The Federal Government and organised labour agreed on N70,000 as the new minimum wage on July 19, up from N30,000 after months of negotiations.

However, many states have yet to start payment, with some declaring difficulty in paying and others constituting panels to fashion out modalities for compliance.
