The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded an immediate reversal of petrol price and electricity tariff increase.
NLC vehemently condemned the recent increase in petrol price and electricity tariff while accusing the federal government of betraying labour leaders and Nigerian workers.
Its President, Joe Ajaero raged over the government’s decision to increase the pump price of petrol to N855 per litre, despite assurances that the price would not be raised.
Ajaero also criticized the government’s failure to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000, which he said would not be enough to sustain most families due to hyperinflation.

He accused the government of cowing labour leaders into accepting the new wage to avoid an increase in petrol price.

The NLC president recalled the agreement reached with President Bola Tinubu, stating that the government had gone back on its word.
He described the situation as “traumatic and nightmarish” and accused the government of pursuing “ferocious right-wing market policies” that have brought Nigerians to their “all-time low.”
Ajaero also condemned the government’s crackdown on protesters, including the arrest and detention of individuals on trumped-up charges.
He accused the police and security agencies of terrorizing citizens and appropriating the statutory roles of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
