This revelation comes amidst ongoing negotiations for a new minimum wage.

According to Benson Upah, the NLC spokesperson, Tinubu made this statement during a meeting with labour leaders, warning that if they insisted on a N250,000 minimum wage, fuel prices could soar to N1,500 or even N2,000 per litre.

Upah expressed skepticism about the logic behind such a drastic price hike, given that the fuel subsidy had already been removed.

The NLC has accused President Tinubu of reneging on his earlier commitment to labour leaders by allowing a fuel price increase. Upah warned that Nigerians may face even higher costs for petrol in the near future, potentially reaching N5,000 per litre.
