Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong attributed the team’s 3-0 victory over Benin Republic to their strong attacking prowess.

In the match, which marked the start of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Ademola Lookman scored twice, while substitute Victor Osimhen also found the back of the net, giving the Super Eagles a commanding win.

Troost-Ekong emphasized that the team’s offensive strength played a key role in the result. “Everyone knows we have great attacking talent, we don’t need to list them out, but our focus was on playing well and keeping things tight at the back. We created chances, and I knew that if we provided enough opportunities to our forwards, they would make them count,” the center-back said in his post-match comments.

He also highlighted that the victory is a positive sign of the team’s progress. “Today’s performance is a good indication of the direction we’re heading in. It’s the first step in a journey that will bring us back to where we want to be.”

Reflecting on the win, Troost-Ekong noted the importance of preparation and respect for their opponents. “We came into this game determined to win. We respect Benin; the last time we played them, they won. But we have strong belief in our team and in our coach, who has returned to us like family. We knew we had to take responsibility today,” said the Al-Khalood defender.
