Reports have emerged that officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) raided the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), a prominent rights group.

According to eyewitnesses, the DSS officers arrived at the SERAP office, demanding to see the organization’s directors.

A statement posted on SERAP’s Twitter handle condemned the incident, calling it an “unlawful occupation” and urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

Also, a staff member of SERAP, who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident to Vanguard newspaper.

They said the DSS officers ordered Kola, a SERAP representative, to report to their office with the organization’s documents on Tuesday, September 10.

The staff member added that they had informed the DSS officers that it would be impossible to get in touch with the Deputy Director immediately, and that a formal invitation letter was required for such processes.

It was said that the DSS officer then instructed them to contact the SERAP bosses and get back to them before the end of the day.
