Tinubu Sends Shettima to Maiduguri over Devastating Floods

President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to promptly travel to Maiduguri, Borno State, in response to the severe flooding that has ravaged the state capital.

Speaking at the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference (CIBN) in Abuja on Tuesday, Shettima announced that he would immediately depart for Maiduguri with the President’s consent.

He said:

“The entire city is inundated with floodwaters. This is not an isolated incident, as we are experiencing similar challenges across the country, from Bayelsa to Sokoto.”

Shettima assured the audience that
Tinubu is deeply concerned about the situation and is committed to taking all necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of those affected.

He said:
“I wish to express my condolences to the people of our great nation for the flood disasters we are witnessing across the length and breadth of our country.”

The flooding in Maiduguri has forced residents to flee their homes, with the Alau Dam reportedly collapsing in the early hours of Tuesday.

Reports indicated that the affected areas include Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin.
