In the nearest future, Nigerians will purchase Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles at a reduced price of N230 per litre.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the initiative, recently launched by President Bola Tinubu, aims to alleviate the financial burden of high fuel prices on Nigerians.

It was revealed that the initiative is part of the government’s drive towards energy diversification and aims to bring immediate relief to Nigerians, particularly those who rely on transportation for their livelihood.

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) will make CNG available at a significantly lower price of N230 per litre, compared to the current petrol price of over N900 per litre.

To facilitate a seamless transition, Tinubu has directed the distribution of one million free CNG conversion kits to commercial vehicles, including those used for public transportation, food, and goods transport.

It was said that these kits will be installed free of charge, enabling vehicle owners to switch to CNG and benefit from lower fuel costs.

The initiative’s first phase will see the distribution of 10,000 conversion kits, which will be provided through key national transport associations, ensuring widespread accessibility.

According to the federal government, the conversion process will be managed by NIPCO Gas, in partnership with PCNGi, through a network of authorized conversion centres across Nigeria.

The federal government said it aims to complete the distribution of all one million conversion kits by 2025, ensuring a comprehensive transition to CNG in the commercial transport sector.
