The House of Representatives has announced a postponement of its annual recess, which was originally scheduled to commence on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the new date for resumption has been set for Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Hon Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, conveyed this change in a statement to Parliamentary Correspondents on Wednesday.

Rotimi clarified that the delay was necessary to facilitate the inauguration of the new board of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and the establishment of the Joint Senate/House Ad-hoc Committees on the Petroleum Industry investigation.

He said:

“During the recess, Honourable Members engaged extensively in constituency outreach across the country, addressing critical issues of concern to constituents, and deepening oversight of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), in accordance with functions outlined in the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) and the House Standing Orders.

“Upon reconvening, the leadership of the House will inaugurate the new board of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and the Joint Senate/House Ad-hoc Committees on the Petroleum Industry Investigation on Wednesday, 25th September 2024.

“Further details regarding these activities will be announced during plenary on the day of resumption.”

“As the 10th Assembly resumes, it will continue to drive its Legislative Agenda, focusing on impactful reforms aimed at national development and fulfilling its mandate to the Nigerian people.”
