NPF Dismantles Illegal Refinery in Rivers

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismantled an illegal refinery, apprehended four suspected oil thieves, and recovered a substantial quantity of petroleum products in Rivers State.

According to a press release issued on Friday by the force’s public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the operation was expertly carried out by the Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) in collaboration with the state command’s department of operations.

The joint team discovered a storage facility in Trans Amadi, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, on September 12, 2024, which was being utilized for the illicit processing and storage of crude oil.

It was revealed that this discovery led to the arrest of four individuals: Emmanuel Nwachi (58), Adamu Bala (35), Nura Musa (22), and Bashir Abubakar (28).

The police also recovered 40,000 litres of petroleum products stored in 67 white storage tanks and subsequently destroyed the site, confiscating the equipment and machines used in the commission of these crimes.

IGP Egbetokun reiterated the police’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of crime, criminality, corruption, and economic sabotage, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
