Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was released minutes after his arrest at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Sunday morning.

Sowore’s arrest was reportedly ordered by the Department of State Services (DSS) due to his prominent role in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests.

In a statement, Sowore described his arrest as “not unexpected” and part of a broader clampdown on dissent by the government.

He urged citizens to “ensure they ALL stop tyranny by all means acceptable and necessary” and to participate in the planned series of direct actions slated for October 1 and beyond.

Sowore’s flight from Washington Dulles International Airport arrived in Lagos at around 9:43 am, and he was detained by Nigerian Immigration Service officials.

However, after a brief detention, Sowore announced on social media that he had been released and his international passport had been returned to him.
