A building collapse has struck the Okpanam community in Delta State, leaving several workers trapped and injured.

The two-storey structure, under construction opposite Asaba Airport, gave way on Saturday following a torrential downpour, sparking panic among nearby residents.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with some workers rescued and others still trapped beneath the rubble.

While some workers managed to escape unscathed, others were rushed to hospital for medical attention.

However, Unor alleged that some individuals involved in the project fled the scene, fearful of arrest.

It was revealed that local residents played a crucial role in the rescue efforts, assisting in the retrieval of victims from the debris.
