EFCC Parades Five Chinese Alleged Illegal Mining In Akwa Ibom | Daily Report Nigeria

  • Five Chinese men have been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

  • The men were arrested for the alleged crime of operating an illegal mining site in Akwa Ibom

Reports reaching Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the five suspects, were arrested by the EFCC at Ndito-Eka-Iba village, in Ibieno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where they were mining a mineral substance, suspected to be ilmenite, a titanium- iron oxide mineral.

 

According to a statement released by the agency on Sunday, September 15, 2024, the suspects were arrested by the “Special Task Force on illegal Mining” at the Commission’s Zonal office in Uyo, after receiving information of some foreigners mining in the community.

The arrested Chinese suspects are: Zhon Qinping arrested on September 10, 2024 at Ibieno Local Government Area, while Li Yi, Xie Bin, Chen Mou Zhou and Chen Zeng were arrested on August 29, 2024 at the same location.

 

The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
