APC’s 2023 Primaries Marred by Manipulation, Says Buhari’s Ex-Aide

1 Min Read

A former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Okoi Obono-Obla, has made shocking allegations against the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of manipulating the 2023 national and state assembly primary elections to favour defectors from other political parties.

Obono-Obla claimed that the only fairly conducted primary election was the governorship primary, where the winner emerged through a consensus.

Obono-Obla called for midterm elections to reform the leadership of the APC in Cross River State, citing deep divisions within the party’s ranks due to perceived injustices that followed the 2021 defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He also criticized the current APC leadership in Cross River State for running an exclusive and undemocratic administration, dominated by defectors from the PDP.

In response, APC State Chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba, dismissed Obono-Obla’s allegations, accusing him of attempting to divide the party.

Eba claimed that Obono-Obla’s frustration stemmed from his failure to secure federal and state appointments for himself and his nominees.
