CNG Touted as Safe, Eco-friendly Fuel Option

CNG Touted as Safe, Eco-friendly Fuel Option | Daily Report Nigeria

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has been hailed as a reliable alternative to petrol by Monday Ashibogwu, former editor of Energy Watch.

Speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Ashibogwu disclosed the benefits of CNG, citing its clean energy and environmentally friendly credentials.

However, he warned that the transition to CNG may be hindered by the high cost of conversion, unless supported by government incentives.

Despite the Federal Government’s announcement to roll out CNG kits nationwide, concerns remain about the safety and practicality of using CNG to power vehicles and generators.

Ashibogwu sought to alleviate these fears, stressing that CNG kits are designed with safety in mind and adhere to strict installation parameters.

He also pointed out that CNG is already widely used globally, with a strong safety record.

He said:

The CNG is the way to go because one of the advantages is that it is clean energy and it is also environmentally friendly.

“The only question we have now is if the capacity of the transition is seamless because it is quite costly for you to convert it except if you get support from the government.

“They (CNG kits) are built within every safe parameter, and they follow the safety rules of installing them in vehicles.

“People are using them all over the world and we’ve had fewer cases of accidents from vehicles being powered by CNG.”
