Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a stark warning to voters in Edo State ahead of the gubernatorial election, urging them to avoid endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he claims has deepened the struggles of Nigerians.

In a statement released on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Atiku emphasized the critical choice facing voters: to continue down a path of misery or to embrace the potential for change.

Atiku’s statement, titled “The clear choice for a prosperous Edo State,” criticized the APC’s governance, stating, “They criticized past leaders for raising fuel prices, yet today, they preside over an era where fuel costs soar above N900 per litre. Their cruelty and disregard for the plight of the masses are unmatched.”

He labeled a vote for the APC as a vote for ongoing hardship, warning that it would signify a continuation of “misery, hunger, and despair.”

The PDP presidential candidate from the 2023 election urged Edo residents to reflect on the APC’s impact on their lives. “Has the APC made your life better, or has it only deepened your struggles?” he asked, asserting that the answer was clear.

He called for support for the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, stating that electing him would reclaim a brighter future for the state.

Atiku criticized the APC for its disconnect from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians, asserting, “They have forsaken the ideals of governance, ignoring the cries of the common man while pursuing their selfish ambitions.” He painted a grim picture of the nation’s current state, saying, “Our people are not dying of disease but of hunger,” and emphasized the urgent need for change.

Atiku urged the people of Edo State to unite at the polls and make a decision that would resonate beyond their borders: “Let us cast our votes for Asue Ighodalo and usher in a new dawn for Edo State. The power is yours. Use it wisely.”
